St. George's National Schools
1816-1953
Was founded in 1816 for children of the Parish, originally housed in West Laith gate for 250 children,it was dark and very noisy being next to "The Plant Works".
In 1867, Rev C.J. Vaughan aquired a site near the Parish Church of St. George's, it opened in 1868 at a cost of £1000.00, with a Boys School, Girls School and Mixed Infants, being funded and governed by the Church.
By 1930, St Geoarge's School became a Mixed Junior School, because of the reduced pupil numbers due to town centre developments.
By 1950 the numbers were very small, the building was aquired by Doncaster Council and formally closed as a school in 1953.
The building was demolished in 1970 to make way for the dual carriageway.

The site on Clay Lane was aquired in 1950 with the building being completed and opened in 1953, the school was in the centre of a newly developing housing estate, with manyo the familiescoming rom houses being demolished around the quickly developing town centre
Over the years the school saw its pupil numbers rise and fall, the estate has aged and families have moved.

Curlew Middle School
1958-1994
As the population o Clay Lane Estate grew, Kingfisher junior School became unable to cope with the increasing number off pupils ffrom the Estate and surrounding areas.
In 1956 permission was given for Curlew Junior School to be built on Barnby Dun Road (although it meant that children had to cross and already busy road).
In April 1958 Curlew was opened with children aged 7 to 11 coming from St. George's and Martin Junior School at Intake, but being residents of Clay Lane.
Designed by T.H. Johnson & Son, being built by J.Dixon Ltd at a cost of £42000.00
